Bowling for the Bunnies: Bowler

February 27th, 2016

The first bunny I ever owned was when I was just going on five years old. I loved Babs moret han I could describe and since her passing, I have retained a compassion and love for bunnies my entire life. A friend who is currently in vet school mentioned that the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue was holding a fundraising event at Sequoia Pro Bowl Lanes and I immediately jumped onboard. There were raffles with proceeds going towards the orginization wich I participated in as well as lots of information about adoption and fostering. It was an amazing event for a great cause. The Ohio House Rabbit Rescue is a truly remarkable group that makes huge strides to bring awarness to animal cruelty and the safe adoptions of abanded rabbits in the area. One day soon I hope to foster a bunny of my own.

Vounteer Work in South Korea

Information about the volunteer programs I participated in during my study abroad experience in South Korea.

Pet Your Seoul: Dog Walker

May 2013 - June 2013

Ever since I can remember, I have been an animal lover. Throughout my childhood, there were always pets in our family. I truly believe in adoption and want to help animals in shelters in any and every way possible. After being away from my two dogs for so long while studying abroad, I really began to miss them. So after some research, I found out about this wonderful program through a local adoption center and signed up to volunteer. Myself and a group of other volunteers would walk the dogs down to the park and play with them for an hour or two and then return to the shelter. I went back as much as time permitted me and it was truly a wonderful experience. All of the volunteers, both Korean and Foreign, were incredibly friendly and open. We were all there for the same reason, to help the center and get those dogs adopted!

Asan Shelter: Volunteer

January 2013

Volunteering at Asan Shelter was the start of many others to come. After the first semester of my study abroad program came to a close, I reflected on the incredible  opportunities and experiences I had thus far. I felt so sincerely grateful and blessed, I wanted to be able to give back in any way possible to Korea, which had given me so much. I decided without hesitation that I needed to find volunteer programs as soon as possible. The first program I found was volunteering at Asan Shelter. The shelter is run by a very sweet older Korean gentleman who has a love for animals and a huge heart. He created a wonderful outdoor / indoor non-kill shelter for both dogs and cats in hopes of giving them a second chance and a future family. The trip to the shelter was a bit nerve racking however, as Asan is quite far from Seoul. It was my first time outside of Seoul by myself, but as soon as I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the rest of the group of volunteers at the train station. Upon arriving at the shelter, I immediately got to work playing with some of the small dogs walking them and giving them some attention. Then I helped with the larger dogs whom did not recieve as much attention because of fear from their size. This was during the winter and unfortunately the pipes had frozen over so everyone worked together to carry buckets of water up the icy hillside and to the pups. Toward the end I bonded with a beautiful but scared large mixed pup and sat with her in her kennel for over half an hour. If I had been able to I would've taken her home with me that same day. All of the animals there are so sweet and the volunteers are very kind and amazing people. It was a wonderful experience that I'll never forget.
